I am behind an ADSL router, and have opened port 21 – when I run telnet, I get a connection message – and then the connection is immediately dropped!

    The log shows

    Sat Feb 28 12:50:36 2004 26 Incoming connection request on interface 10.0.0.19

    Sat Feb 28 12:50:36 2004 26 Connection request accepted from 10.0.0.19

Sat Feb 28 12:50:36 2004 26 Error closing connection: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

Sat Feb 28 12:50:36 2004 26 Error: Socket error while waiting for ready-to-send indicator. Terminating connection.

    Sat Feb 28 12:50:36 2004 26 Connection terminated.

This repeats 3 times and then telnet gives up

I have read the posts about PASV and have put my routers external IP address in as the PASV address but am not sure if I also have to

    1. Open port 20

    2. Open a range of ports for PASV

(NAPT entries are added port by port, do I really have to put in 100’s of entries??!!)

My router is a Thomson SpeedTouch 530 connected via a NIC

    Any ideas anyone???

    Cheers

    Hello,

Why are you trying to telnet into an FTP server?

Trying to see if the port was open – but have resolved my problems now, although I cannot get a passive connection everything works otherwise!

    Good stuff :)

Make sure you upgrade to version 2.15 official. The newest version corrects a major bug that may be preventing PASV from working if your server is located on the local network.

Yes, I tried this – the ‘About’ screen show 2.15, not sure about the ‘official’

    is there an ‘unofficial’ version??!!

    Cheers

Chris ! Friend ! Tell me how you fixed it !

I’m getting the exact same thing. I’ve installed Cerberus on a WinXP Pro machine behind a smoothwall firewall. I punched a hole in the firewall on port 21. No problems there. I can connect to the ftp server from within the local network. When I connect from outside, it says it’s connected, then drops the connection in the way you describe. I have no firewall running in XP (that I’m aware of)

    Any help appreciated.

    Hello!

I get the same exact messages as in the original post. I use Zone Alarm as a firewall, but i let the cerberus server to do everything and i’m accesing the FTP server using the browser.

When using mozilla… i see in the logs that the server or the browser (i don’t know which) is trying to reach the files in a way and says file not found and then it tries passive mode and then works to send the file to the browser. And when i’m navigating thru directories with the browser on the FTP, the files dont show up, only if i press F5 twice (everytime when i visit the ftp).

In internet explorer when i give it a direct link to a file.. it doesn’t load it ever.

I think version 2.15 official it is very buggy yet. I’m using win2k pro + SP4.
