I’m constantly encountering user profile resetting. Log file shows that there is problem opening the user profile during occurrence of this problem. Afterwards, users in User Setting erased with only “New User” account left, I need to re-configured all the user accounts to make the server work. Your assistance is highly needed.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

What version of Cerberus FTP Server are you running?

There are no known problems with the profile creation/saving/ or loading, but as a possible fix, try deleting your users.pro file in the Cerberus FTP Server directory. Do this while Cerberus is not running. Cerberus will create a new users.pro file the next time it is started.

Hopefully, this will resolve the problem. One other thing worth checking is that you don’t have any odd permissions set on the directory Cerberus FTP Server is installed into. In other words, make sure Cerberus has full access to that directory.

I am using the latest beta version 3 updated from v2.16. What I have done before is save a copy of the users.pro and just overwrite when this resetting happens. But once in awhile I am encountering this problem.

Lately I’ve tried converting the users.pro read-only, however I am getting an error log of not being able to save the user file but the good thing is that the users are no longer deleted or reset.

The server is running as service with a power user or unlimited account normally logged-on. I am connected with a dynamic IP using DynDNS. It is installed in Windows XP SP1 (Internet Connection Firewall activated) machine with ProxyPlus server, Pc-cillin Internet Security and Spybot running.

I will try to post the log file that shows this error later.

    Thanks.

As specified, please delete your users.pro file and let Cerberus FTP Server re-create it automatically. I’m guessing your profile file somehow got corrupted before. If you keep copying over the old corrupt profile, you are probably going to keep seeing problems. You will have to re-add all of the old users, but it is the most likely sure way to fix the problem.

I did what you recommended and so far I have not encountered resetting of user profile. Thanks.
