Common Folder direct access

Post by scan » Fri Feb 24, 2017 3:17 am

Dear all,
I have a simple question, and kindly ask for your help and suggestions.
Is it possible to create the common directory, wich will be accesible for all from internet through http and https.
Link for example - https://server.sss/folder
When I will enter this link - I need to see the directory listing of the all files in it, or just empty folder. All files in the mention folder need to be accesible through the direct link, for example: https://server.sss/folder/file1.fff
Is it possible?

Would Public File Sharing not work for you?

Let me explain the practical part of my question.
I have the idea to use the signed and verified by Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, which I can get using the service https://sslforfree.com
The problem is, that every 3 month I will need to verify the domain ownership to be able to renew the domain SSL certificate for another 3 monthes. To do this, I will need to manually change the 3 DNS records in my hosting panel - it will take some time, and it will be so boring procedure! :)

But, OMG, they have a very nice solution - Automatic FTP verification. All I need for this, - just to enter FTP login and pass.

SSLforFree system will upload few special files to this FTP directory, - and after will try to reach them outside, using a direct http/s links, for example - h**p://server.sss/.well-known/acme-challenge/file.txt to verify the ownership.
The problem is, that it is not possible to do this correctly using the Cerberus FTP functional (or I don't know, how to do it correctly).
So, my previous question is still open. And, no, i cant use the Public Share for this procedure.

I think you could use public file sharing if you are unable to use public file sharing could you please tell me why.

You have two issues here, one you need to create an directory and need a user account with FTP to have the verification files uploaded.

What if you:

1. Create a new user in Cerberus with FTP and HTTP access.
2. Create a Virtual Directory for this user ie: C:\users\Cert

That should take care of the folder and now you have a username/password to use with sslforfree.com

Next you will need an HTTP link that has direct access to the folder we just created. We can do that with public file sharing.

3. Login to the Web Client with you newly created user.
4. Create a public share link to your folder w/upload option checked.

You then can go back to sslforfree.com and use the username/password for the new user you created and https link that was created when you made the public file share.

It will not work! :)
The problem is, that all Cerberus public shares looks like h**ps://server.sss/public/file/tt_YasYaUgLWefI-b9WkA/file.txt
But the SSLforFree service need to use direct link for check precedure - h**p://server.sss/.well-known/acme-challenge/file.txt
No chance to succeed with your idea!

The last option I can suggest is to drop the file.txt here:
C:\Program Files\Cerberus LLC\Cerberus FTP Server\webadmin\client\images

You should be able to access file via HTTPS
https://server.sss/images/file.txt

Thanks for your suggestion. It is so close! Nope,it did not working..

Accordingly to your recommendations, I created the direct link:
h**p://server.sss/images/.well-known/acme-challenge/avDU7MHrUDURjhFusIjg

But, the confirmation link need to be exactly as described below:
h**p://server.sss/.well-known/acme-challenge/avDU7MHrUDURjhFusIjg
Otherwise, the SSLforFree system will not see the control file.

Anyway, it is a very nice hint with the images folder :)
