Permissions (not simple directories)

Additional features you would like to see added, changed, or removed. This forum isn't just for the Cerberus FTP Server application. Feel free to post suggestions for anything related to Cerberus (the website, this forum, ect.)

Permissions (not simple directories)

Post by bsp » Mon Mar 28, 2011 7:50 pm

Would be possible to separate the permissions?
The permissions of the folder/s root and, on the other hand, the permissions of the contents (of the folder) and subfolders.

Example:

Folder root -> Download, Upload, Display Hidden
Subfolder/s and content -> Download, Upload, Rename, Delete, Display Hidden

Thanks in advance ;)

Hello,

The flexibility would be nice but it introduces a fair amount of complexity and nuance to the user interface. We don't have any immediate plans to add that capability.

I understand...

The idea is to prevent others from deleting the folder root if it had the delete permission, in others words, can delete the content but not the folder root.
Note: The same for rename permission.

What do you think about it?

Thanks again.

I do think that is a good idea and I may be able to incorporate a setting in the next major release to disallow renaming or deleting a root folder.

I'd really like to "bump" this thread ;-)
Before we bought Cerberus FTP, we used FileZilla Server. It's quite a good FTP server as long as you don't need SFTP ;-)
We're actually more than fine with Cerberus FTP (and yes, we're going to upgrade to Enterprise), BUT we would really like to see the feature to set file and folder permissions on subfolders seperately, as we did it with FileZilla ;-)
We would like to give our customers the opportunity to rename and delete their uploaded files, that are contained in their data folder, but only let them read files that are stored in subfolders under their data/root folders.

It would be more than awesome, if you guys could incorporate this feature in one of the next releases :-)

Kind regards
Alex

I think this should really be in a separate thread, but I'll address it here. We are tentatively planning to separate file and folder permissions for delete and rename in 10, due out later this year.
