Just to let you know that I have the exact same problem on Windows 7, though I don't have a direct connection but connect through a router. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

We are actually working on this problem right now with another customer. It does not appear to have anything to do with the interface but with MSXML on some systems. It's a very strange problem. We have a build at:

http://www.cerberusftp.com/files/CerberusInstall302.exe that has a bunch of new logging information. It is also a stable release with several bug fixes.

If you can try it out and post your log, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

There indeed seems to be a problem with the interfaces.xml according to the log:
20090815163523 Intel Core 2 with 4 processors
20090815163523 Microsoft Windows 7

20090815163523 Cerberus FTP Server 3.0.2 - Professional started on 'Dell'
20090815163523 Added to Windows Firewall Exception list

20090815163523 Could not open [C:\ProgramData\Cerberus LLC\Cerberus FTP Server\interfaces.xml] : Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.(line 0, column 0)
20090815163523 Unable to load settings for interface '192.168.2.2' : Unable to load interface settings from file
20090815163523 Interface 0 listening at 192.168.2.2 on port 21

20090815163523 Interface 1 listening at 127.0.0.1 on port 3333
I checked the interfaces.xml, and tried to manually change the listening port for 192.168.2.2 to 3333. However, after starting Cerberus again I get the exact same error in the log and the port in interfaces.xml is changed back to 21.

Interesting, the "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation" is a new message. That part was blank on the Windows XP box we've been testing against. We would just get "Could not open [C:\ProgramData\Cerberus LLC\Cerberus FTP Server\interfaces.xml] : (line 0, column 0)"

so at least that is another clue. This would probably be easy to fix if we could just duplicate it in our lab.

The file saves fine. It is the loading process that fails. Manually changing will, unfortunately, not work because the file never reads in properly for the first interface. It just uses the defaults.

Thanks for testing it out.

Curious, how many user accounts do you have? Just a rough estimate. A few, a dozen, a few hundred?

The first time I checked I didn't have any (just installed Cerberus on a fresh Win7 installation and wanted to import them later).

Just added 3 users and restarted the program, but no difference unfortunately.

Ok, I don't think it has anything to do with the size of the XML file then. I have a few hundred for testing, no problems. Hmm...

I think we've just managed to 'fix' the problem. It appears to be a Microsoft MS XML bug. The "Storage error" you received allowed me to google search it and find some other references to the problem. Releasing and reinitializing our COM object to MS XML seems to fix the problem.

We should have an official release out this weekend.

Here is the release that we will probably make official. Fee free to try it out and see if it fixes your problem. You will have to uninstall your previous release first, but all of your settings should remain intact.

For me this solves the problem: Great!! Thank you very much for your extremely fast response!! :)

Just a minor other thing I wanted to ask: I now notice that when running Cerberus 'normally' it gives an error message in the log-screen: 'Unable to open statistics file: Access is denied'. This message does not appear when I run Cerberus as an Administrator. Should I be warned about this message or will it have negative effects on how the server operates, or can I just ignore it? (As far as I can see the statistics tab does show the connections and statistics as it is supposed to do, even with the error message).

Well, the response wasn't quite as quick as it seemed :) We've been trying to duplicate this problem for a few months and only now have gotten access to a machine that was experiencing it. It was quick work solving it after that. But thanks for trying the test build and reporting the error message. That definitely helped.

You can safely ignore the statistics message (it shouldn't affect performance in any way), though it may mean that statistics are not getting saved to the statistics file. I will look into it.

For me the problem seems to be solved, I downloaded the 302 again, uninstalled the previous install and installed the 302 and now when I start the program the right port number is used.
for this, I thank you. :)
