Problem with external connection

Post by pewe » Wed Mar 25, 2009 7:26 pm

I have set up the server on one PC and can connect locally from another PC.

I have set up port forwarding on my router but when I try to connect from the internet the following appears in the client.
-----------------
Status: Connecting to xx.xx.x.xxx:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 220-Cerberus FTP Server Personal Edition
Response: 220-UNREGISTERED
Response: 220-Welcome to Cerberus FTP Server
Response: 220 Created by Grant Averett
Command: USER pewe
Response: 331 User pewe, password please
Command: PASS *********
Response: 230 Password Ok, User logged in
Status: Connected
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/" is the current directory
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Type Binary
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (xx,xx,x,xxx,4,14)
Command: LIST
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
-------------

I have obviously missed something in the settings somewhere.

Can someone point me in the right direction

Have you forwarded the passive port range too?
Have you tried to change the "ip used for passive" - perhaps you have an "intelligent" router, so you in fact need to specify the local ip?
Leave the times in the log, that makes it easier to se in a log what is going on and when.

Can you verify the PASV address being given out is the correct address and that your router is still forwarding those ports to the correct machine?

Hey guys! sorry for taking so long. i've found the answer in the most bizare of places. and yes, i had forwarded all the ports needed.

Under the "Server Manager" i no longer have it auto-detect my PASV Settings, i now just use a custom DNS service.

i still don't understand why it suddenly went hay-wire overnight, but now i've got it up and running, and it has been for about a month now.

Thanks a bunch for all the help!

until next time,

-Paul
