Cerberus now correctly uses UTF-8 for file name encoding. Previous version incorrectly used the local code page to transfer files which is why Cyrillic used to work. Try using an FTP client that supports UTF-8 encoding like Filezilla.

Dear Cerberus creators,

May I ask for an improvement to allow user select encoding of filenames on his own?

Thanks!

We are planning on adding a compatibility mode to allow users to change the default encoding.

I'd like to know, if it is already added or still planned? If planned, when (in what version) is this compatibility mode supposedly going to appear?
I would be very grateful for this improvement, as I'm using "FreeCommander" file manager for the access to "Cerberus" FTP server (UTF-8), and, unfortunately, both of the programs don't have the ability of changing the default encoding. That's why, I'm also experiencing problems with Cyrillic encoding.
Thank you :)

Hello,

It honestly isn't high on our list, but we might be able to squeeze in an option sometime in the next couple of months.

Please note that there are a lot of free FTP clients that support UTF-8. Give Filezilla FTP client a try.

Serin, thank you very much for the answer.
OK, I'll give another FTP client a try and wait for the FreeCommander to support UTF-8.

I also have a problem with Cyrillic encoding when trying to use Cerberus server. I use Total Commander in my work but didn't find any settings to enable UTF-8 in it's FTP client.
It would be great if you do compatibility mode. But for now I have to use another FTP Server :(

We've added support for the command OPTS UTF8 OFF to turn off UTF8 encoding. This should default to Cerberus serving content in the native character set Cerberus is using to clients that send the command.

It will be in version 3.1.1 which we are planning on releasing tonight or tomorrow.

Just posted version 3.1.1.

Your client needs to send the "OPTS UTF8 OFF" command to disable UTF8.
