200 type ASCII and 421 PASV command failed error

Post by saikai » Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:53 am

I am always encountering error messages during my first time connection to my Cerberus server (Beta 3) at home. I am connecting at work using Internet Explorer (Windows XP Pro - SP1) with an unlimited account behind a corporate firewall. The error messages are:

200 Type ASCII
421 PASV command failed

However, after login for the second time using File Login As... it connects easily and even if I close my browser and re-connect.

What is causing this problem? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

Most likely, the port PASV is configured to use as the first passive port is in use by another application. Try changing the port range to something higher than the default of 1024.

I've made the PASV port range to 1025 to 35000 and the error stopped. Thanks.

One more thing, what would be the effect if make the PASV port range wide? Will it be vulnerable to hackers and intruders?

Regards,

Saikai
