Cerberus FTP Server

Subscription Change FAQs

As of April 10, 2023, Cerberus FTP Server will only be available as a subscription service. For our many thousands of valued customers, here’s why we’re making this change and the benefits you will see from it.

Why is Cerberus moving to subscription?

Cerberus is known for its great support, reliability, security and customer-driven product roadmap. With our upcoming major release of V13, we’re rolling out a long list of features and services long desired by customers – such as SAML/SSO, geoblocking, enhanced encryption options, and 24/7/365 support. In order to support our customers as they take advantage of these improvements, we have decided to move to a subscription model.

What changes for me?

There will be no interruption to users of Cerberus FTP Server as you transition from perpetual license to subscription license. All subscription packages will feature significant product enhancements versus perpetual packages, and increased options for support will be available. You’ll get an enhanced version of the same great product and support team we’ve always had.

Perpetual licenses and maintenance contracts will no longer be available. All new licenses and renewals will be subscription licenses, which include access to the software, technical support, and all product updates.

What does the new subscription include?

Cerberus’ new subscription packages include a wide array of customer-requested features now available in Cerberus FTP Server V13, including SAML/SSO, 24/7 support, geoblocking, enhanced encryption and more.

Each package includes a software license, technical support, and product updates.

Cerberus used to be licensed per server - is this still the case?

Yes. You’ll need one subscription license for each machine you want to install Cerberus FTP Server on. A single subscription license cannot be enabled on multiple machines.

If you wish to cluster multiple machines together for high availability and load balancing, you will need a full production subscription for each machine.

Unique subscription licenses are also needed for disaster recovery (DR) machines, testing, development, staging, and quality assurance installations. These are available at 50% off, and can be purchased with a new license or added on at a later time. You must have a production subscription license to purchase this license type.

Can I still upgrade my existing perpetual license to a different edition?

Yes. You’ll be able to move your existing active perpetual license into a higher subscription license (i.e., Professional to Enterprise) at any time. Even better, we’ll take the full amount you’ve already paid and apply it towards the first subscription year.

Example: if you paid $899 for Professional edition earlier this year and decide you need the Enterprise edition, we’ll apply the full $899 already paid towards the first year of the new Enterprise subscription license.

If I renew early, will I lose part of my existing maintenance contract?

No. Your new subscription term dates will start when your existing maintenance contract expires. We encourage you to renew early so that you can have the key in place ahead of contract expiration.

I already own Cerberus. What happens if I don’t renew and my existing perpetual license expires?

You will retain your perpetual license, but you will no longer have access to technical support or updated versions of the product. Cerberus only supports the current version of its product, including for security patches.

We’ll help you renew into a subscription so you can continue to benefit from the technical support, product updates, and roadmap enhancements.

I currently have a Standard edition license, but my renewal says Professional. Can I still purchase a Standard license?

In order to deliver the best experience possible to our business users, we made the hard choice to no longer offer Standard licenses. At the time of renewal, your subscription will be upgraded to Professional, which will give you access to a significantly improved set of security features and more.

Can I renew access to product updates and not the technical support? Can I just pay as needed for technical support?

Cerberus FTP Server operates as a subscription service. This subscription includes access to the software, technical support, and all product updates. It is not offered a la carte.

The subscription is more than I can charge to my credit card. Can I use a purchase order (PO) to subscribe to Cerberus FTP Server?

Yes, we accept signed POs for ordering Cerberus FTP Server. Our terms are Net 30, and we support invoice payment by credit card, PayPal, or bank transfer.

Your order will only be fulfilled once a signed PO is received and approved by Cerberus staff.

Our invoices have instructions for how to pay with a bank transfer (make sure you review our wire transfer policy here).
