Cerberus by Redwood version 2026.3 gives customers more flexibility in how and where they deploy while continuing to raise the bar on security and compliance.
What’s new?
Cloud storage support for Virtual Directories (Amazon S3, Azure Blob)
Customers can now back their Cerberus Virtual Directories directly with Amazon S3 or Azure Blob Storage, rather than storing files on local disk. This feature supports secure client protocols (FTPS, SFTP and HTTPS), so data moving to and from cloud storage stays protected in transit. For cloud-first and hybrid organizations, there’s no longer a need to provision or manage separate server storage just to maintain Virtual Directories, cutting down on overhead and complexity.
RADIUS authentication support
Customers can now use RADIUS as an authentication source for Cerberus, alongside existing LDAP/AD support. Rather than being limited to Cerberus’s built-in one-time token (OTP) system, customers can route multi-factor authentication (MFA) through their own in-house RADIUS-based MFA platform. For organizations that already run centralized RADIUS authentication, this means Cerberus can plug into existing MFA infrastructure rather than requiring a separate authentication process of its own.
LocalDB support for SQL Server in Reporting
For Cerberus Enterprise and Enterprise+ customers, Reporting now offers SQL Server LocalDB (2014 or higher), available in the Database Configuration dropdown on the Reporting page. This gives customers a lighter-weight alternative to a full SQL Server installation, providing a low-capacity way to test and validate Reporting performance and automation before committing to a full-scale deployment.
FIPS 140-3 support in Cerberus Gateway
FIPS 140-3 is the United States (US) government’s seal of approval that guarantees software uses the most secure, modern cryptographic methods available to protect sensitive data. Cerberus Gateway now supports FIPS 140-3, giving customers a fully compliant Cerberus deployment for both Server and Gateway ahead of the FIPS 140-2 certificate sunset in September 2026. This completes the FIPS 140-3 rollout, which began with Cerberus FTP Server in 2026.1, extending that same level of compliance to Gateway.
Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver 17 and 18 support in Reporting
Previously, Cerberus Reporting relied on SQL Server Native Client 11.0 for database connectivity. With that driver reaching end of life, Reporting has been updated to support ODBC Driver 17 and Driver 18 for SQL Server (the same connectivity layer used for the new LocalDB support above). Customers can now connect Reporting to modern SQL Server environments without relying on an unsupported driver.
OpenSSL 3.5.7 Long Term Support (LTS) upgrade
Cerberus has upgraded its embedded OpenSSL library from 3.0.20 to 3.5.7 LTS, ahead of the OpenSSL 3.0.x end-of-life date of September 7, 2026. OpenSSL 3.5 was released as an official LTS version in April 2025 and is supported through April 2030, giving customers a stable, long-supported foundation for cryptographic operations. This update applies automatically upon server updates and maintains security patch coverage across every protocol that relies on TLS/cryptographic functions (FTPS, HTTPS and SFTP) as well as the FIPS module.
Additional fixes and improvements
This release also includes the libssh2 patch from Cerberus 2026.2.2, addressing CVE-2026-55200, an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Please note: libssh2 has not yet published an official patched release as of July 31, 2026, so vulnerability scanners may still flag this as a false positive based on the version number alone.
We’ve also fixed an issue where resizing the Listeners sidebar could cause tooltips to overlap and obscure other elements, corrected the Reporting retention setting so it now defaults to one year instead of blank, resolved a navigation issue where saving settings on the SSH/SFTP or HTTP/HTTPS protocol tabs would redirect admins back to the FTP/FTPS page and made further security hardening updates in response to customer feedback.
